Peel Dream Magazine is an LA-based band fronted by multi-instrumentalist Joseph Stevens. Drawing on a range of avant-garde and pop influences, they emerged from New York City’s vibrant DIY scene with their 2018 debut Modern Meta Physic, and have gone on to release several albums that traverse drone rock, shoegaze, folk, and minimalist symphonic music. In 2020, they relocated to the West Coast.
On 2024’s Rose Main Reading Room, which Pitchfork describes as “gorgeous and glowing”, the band beckons toward a newfound romance and nostalgia with their catchiest collection of songs to date. Set to the backdrop of New York City and its towering landmarks — The American Museum of Natural History, Grand Central Station, and the like — Stevens weaves personal stories into the wider fabric of the natural world, touching on themes of instinct, animality, and evolution.
